Join a Group
Groups have two main factors to a successful program: content and people.
This article outlines the possible ways someone can join a Group to start viewing, contributing, and sharing the content within.
Join a public Group
Anyone can join a public Group at any time. Take the following steps to join a Group.
- Go to Groups.
- Select All Groups.
- Find the Group to join.
- Click Join.

Once the Join button is clicked, you'll become a member of the Group and can view, contribute, and share content from the Group.
Join a private Group
A private group is never discoverable. It does not appear under All Groups and you cannot find one by browsing or searching. The only way you end up in a private group is that an Admin puts you there.
You end up in a private group one of two ways, and both come from an Admin or one of the group’s Moderators rather than from you finding it. Either they add you directly, or an Assignment puts you there based on your department or location.
An Admin sets each assignment to be soft or hard, and the difference is whether you are allowed to leave.
- Hard. You stay in the group. There is no Leave option.
- Soft. You can leave the group if it is not relevant to you.
Leaving a private group is a one-way door. Because a private group is not discoverable, you cannot find it again to rejoin. An Admin or one of the group’s Moderators has to add you back. See How to Leave a Group before you leave one.
The lock icon next to a group name is how you tell a private group from a public one. It means the group is invite only and is not visible to anyone outside it.

Options to add people to a Group
Admins and Moderators have the ability to manage user permissions and Group access. There are two options to add team members to a Group.
This is accessible to Admin and Group Moderators.
Assignments
The most popular way to add people to a Group is to automate it using Assignments. Check out this article for more details on using Assignments.
Manually add people to a Group
Admins and Moderators can add people to a single Group, without using Assignments, as long as the Group is set to Private.
- Go to a Private Group.
- Go to Members.
- Click the + plus icon.
- Type the person's name into the field.
- Confirm the selection and click Done.

Note: If you want to add a person to a public Group, an Admin must edit the Group and make it private.
