How to Leave a Group

Groups are a great way to see new content inside of EveryoneSocial. You can join Groups based on interest or an Admin can automatically assign you to a Group when you create your account.

But what do you do if you find yourself in a Group that doesn’t interest you any more or is no longer relevant?

Should this become the case, you may decide to leave a Group. Leaving a public group is easy to undo. Leaving a private one is not, so it is worth knowing which kind you are in before you click.

This is accessible to all roles and permission levels.

How to Leave a Group

When you decided that you no longer want to be a member of a Group, follow the steps below to leave a Group.

  1. Go to Groups.
  2. Select Following.
  3. Click Leave.

Once you have left, the grey Leave button is replaced by a blue Join button, and you can rejoin whenever you like. See Join a Group.

Leaving a private group works differently, so check before you leave. A private group is not discoverable, which means it never appears under All Groups and you cannot find it again by searching or browsing. If you leave one you cannot put yourself back in. An Admin or one of the group’s Moderators has to add you again. A private group is the one with a lock icon next to its name.

Note: Leaving Groups may be unavailable if Admins have required you to join the Group or you created the Group. Moderators must go to the Group's Timeline for the Leave option to present.
